What We Do
Our Surf Life Saving Club revolves around our core business of providing beach safety and a vital community service and playing a fundamental role in building healthy communities and better health outcomes of all ages. We patrol the beach over the summer months.
About the Course
Age Requirement: 14 years or older
Eligibility: Must be a current member of a Surf Life Saving club (that’s us at Waitārere Beach)
Course Duration: Typically 6 - 8 weeks, depending on skill level and training structure .
Delivered By: Qualified Surf Life Saving club instructors, with assessment by local examiners
Who It’s For: Anyone keen to begin their journey as a Surf Lifeguard Candidate
Requirements: Successfully complete all practical components, theory assessments, and required tests
Exam Components
400m pool swim in under 9 minutes
Run-Swim-Run in the surf
Tube Rescue in the pool and surf
First Aid and CPR
Communication Signals
Radio Communication
Theory questions
Rescue tows and releases
